To facilitate clinical services, the Neurology Department is subdivided in to several "firms" or teams (listed below.) Students are assigned to a firm, which will between primary base for the rotation. To enhance breadth of exposure to neurology students and encouraged to attend clinics of various neurological subspecialties whenever firm activities allow (see clinics page.)

Students
are expected to be at morning report 8:30 in H6/581 at UW on
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and multidisciplinary
rounds 9:00 to 9:15 on the same days. On Wednesdays there
is no morning report or multidisciplinary conference for
the students on the inpatient firm but there is neuropathology
at 8:30 am in the Neuro library every first and third (and
fifth, if present) Wednesday of each month. Morning report
is held in the Neurology Library on H6/581 and multidisciplinary
rounds are held in the Neurosciences Conference room on
D6/4.
Stroke
Firm
After the course orientation on your first day, please page the stroke resident on call to find out where to catch up with the team. Otherwise, meet at morning report, which is held daily at 8:30 a.m. in the neurology library, H6/581 CSC.
Students are expected to attend morning report daily, followed by multidisciplinary rounds at 9:00 a.m. in the D6/4 report room. Ward rounds follow, starting at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The main outpatient clinic responsibility is for urgent stroke visits, which occur on an ad hoc basis; your attending will notify you when these arise. The stroke attendings otherwise do not have routine clinics while on service. Students may attend Dr. Dulli's clinic on Tuesday afternoons (cancelled when he's on service) and Dr. Sattin's clinic on Thursday afternoons (cancelled when he's on service.) Both start at 1:00 p.m. in the neurology clinic, B module, 2nd floor.
Pediatric
Firm
The
Pediatric Neurology firm covers both patients admitted to
the service as well as inpatient consults. Both patients
admitted to the service as well as consult patients will
be assigned to each student and the student is then expected to monitor
the day-to-day progress of their patients.

Students
are to round on their patient(s) prior to rounding with
the resident or going clinic.
Students
will round with the pediatric-neurology resident between 8:00-9:30 am depending on the pediatric clinic schedule.
Attending
rounds will vary depending on the clinic schedule.
While
on the pediatric neurology service the following pediatric
clinic schedule applies depending on the attending covering
the service at the time:
Dr.
Stafstrom's Clinics
Thursday
AM starting at 8:00
Friday AM starting at 8:00
Dr. Sheth's Clinics
Tuesday all day starting at 8:00
Dr. Hsu's Clinics
Monday AM starting at 8:00.
Noon
time (12:00-1:00 pm) is reserved for didactics and all students
should report to the Neuro Library on H6/581.
The exception is Thursday when noon time didactics are replaced
by chairman rounds and this session is reserved for the
residents only. Therefore, with some exceptions when chairman
rounds are cancelled, there is not a scheduled noon time
didactic for the students on Thursday.
Inpatient
Consults
Page the Neurology inpatient consult resident through the hospital operator.
The
inpatient consult resident varies from month to month. The
best way to get in touch with the consult resident is to
identify yourself as the student on consults at the end
of morning report on the first day of your rotation.
Students
are expected to be at morning report 8:30-9:00 am at UW
on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays there
is no morning report but there is Neuropathology at 8:30
am in the Neuro library every 1st and 3rd (and, if present,
5th) Wednesday of each month. Morning report is held in
the Neurology Library on H6/581.
The
inpatient consult service is usually a busy service covering
consults both at the VA and UW. Only adult patients
are seen by the consult service since there is a separate neuropediatrics
service which manages all the pediatric neuro consults.
Rounding
times with the attending vary depending on the
clinic schedule but students should round on the patients
assigned to them prior to morning report.

S. Park/Physicians Plus
Arrive at 9:00 AM at 20 S. Park, Ste. 202, and check in
with
Dr. Dreizin (287-2090)
Most
days, students see patients with a staff neurologist in
the office or the hospital. They work with a neurologist
half a day at a time. We try to have students doing at least
part of the history and exam on each new patient they see.
When possible, students see the patient first.
On call
days (at least two during the three week rotation) students
will work up emergency inpatient admissions and consults
until 10:00 PM, and discuss the cases with the on-call neurologist.
Students
should be at 20 South Park St., Room 202 at 9:00 each day.
We have a clinical conference at 8:15 on Wednesdays on the
neurology floor at Meriter Hospital. Students are most welcome
to attend, unless they go to the neuroradiology conference at UW Hospital.
We expect the students to go to the daily 4:15 pm afternoon lectures at UW and
Friday Grand Rounds at UW.
